Who is the Lamb?

Jesus is a historical figure, but he is also God. He died on the cross on behalf of people whom he loves, and the cross was necessary because people can’t get saved based on their own works. Ever since Adam and Eve and their transgression, sin has separated us from God. The consequence of sin is death (Rom. 6:23). Before Jesus, the people of God sacrificed animals to God, and one of the commanded sacrifices included sacrificing a lamb that would purify people from their sins. Yet, this only foreshadowed the perfect sacrifice to come. God himself sent his only son Jesus to the world. He was both a human being and God at the same time. Jesus came to serve, heal, and save people, yet people at that time did not want to receive him but rather, they killed him; Jesus was crucified. When hanging on the cross, Jesus took on the role of a lamb and shed his blood as a sacrifice for our sins.

Isaiah the prophet spoke about this event already more than 700 years before Jesus was born saying: ”He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth” (Isa. 53:7). Jesus didn’t only die for our sins, but he also gained his life back through resurrection, conquered death, and lives today. Jesus loves every single human being, and he wants to live in union with you. If you want the same, there is only one solution: only the blood of Jesus, the lamb, can purify you from all sin and give you eternal life. You can pray: ”Jesus, forgive me my sins and come live within me, amen.”

I have always believed in God, yet if someone had come to talk to me about the lamb and the wedding of the lamb ten years ago, I would not have understood it at all. God is very real to me nowadays, and I believe that he takes care of me, answers my prayers, and I can feel his presence like a warm feeling of love in my chest. You can get the same connection with Him, and the way to it is Jesus, who paid on the cross the price for all the sins we have committed. Today, I consider Jesus a living person and God. He has promised to come back and take us to his wedding feast where we, who are his own people, are said to be his bride and Jesus, the lamb, is our groom.

What is the Wedding of the Lamb?

The Bible is sparse on the details concerning the actual program or what happens at the wedding. One description of it is in the Book of Revelation: ”Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure — for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, ’Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’” (Rev. 19:7-9)

Getting married to my wife was a huge decision because it was about a lifelong covenant. After making the decision, we wanted to have a big celebration, and that was the biggest celebration we have ever arranged. At our wedding, we ate, sang, danced, and got to spend the gorgeous summer day with our dearest family members and friends.

When I think about the wedding of the lamb, I can’t help comparing it to the weddings I have seen and experienced. It has to do with a covenant—an eternal covenant with God. No one is forced to make the commitment; you can choose it. Likewise, I was not forced to marry my wife, but rather, I did it because I wanted to. And I was happy that my wife wanted to marry me, her groom. Our heavenly groom doesn’t want to force us, but instead, he offers eternal life with him for everyone who wants to accept the invitation. That is why you will not find anyone, who has been forced to attend, at the wedding of the lamb. This wedding will be a celebration full of joy and exultation, and all glory will be given to God. My own wedding is a pale foretaste of what God has prepared for us. The Bible doesn’t give us details of what the wedding feast will be like, just like I didn’t tell our guests the wedding program beforehand. We just asked our guests to let us know if they were coming, and the program was revealed when the guests arrived at the venue. So, we don’t need to know what kinds of activities the wedding involves. The most important thing is whether we want to be part of it or not.

Who is Invited?

Unfortunately, according to the Bible, ”many are called, but few are chosen” (Matt. 22:14). We must accept the invitation to be able to go to the wedding. Also, we need to wash and whiten our clothes, so to speak (Rev. 7:13-14), and this happens when we ask forgiveness for our sins and welcome Jesus to live in our hearts. Perhaps you doubt whether Jesus is real, or if this marriage supper talk is just nonsense and made up by believers who have lost their minds. Even if you think this way, what can you lose if you accept the invitation? If what this website is saying is not true, you will not lose anything. But if the wedding of the lamb is true and will happen and you don’t accept the invitation, you are in danger of losing eternal life with God and are on your way to eternal damnation.

God loves also those who doubt, and if this is you, be assured: you are invited. We encourage you to give up on your doubts and accept the invitation. After doing that, God will give you an inner assurance that you have made the right decision through his Holy Spirit. Yet, you cannot receive that assurance beforehand, which is why people usually say that you can get into communion with Jesus only through faith. You can make the decision here.

When and Where is This Celebration?

Since we can’t give anyone a specific date and time when the feast takes place, we can only encourage people to be ready every day, just like the Bible tells us to in the parable of the ten virgins (Matt. 25:1-13). Those who are ready will get in. We can’t tell you the exact place, either, since that has not been revealed. We can only tell you that there will come a time when ”we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord” (1 Thess. 4:17). So the groom is coming to get his bride to take her to the wedding of the lamb. Jesus exhorts us to spread the word: ”Tell those who are invited: See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast” (Matt. 22:4).

Accepting the Invitation

According to John 3:16, ”God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Human beings are sinners on their way to eternal damnation, that is, eternal separation from God. Sin separates us from God, and it can be removed only by turning to Jesus, the Son of God. Jesus states: ”I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Thus, God sent his only son into the world and gave him as a sacrifice for our sins (like a lamb to be slaughtered). The Son was born of a virgin, he was sacrificed on the cross, and he lives today. If you believe this and you sincerely pray, for example, like this: ”Jesus, please forgive me my sins and come to live my heart, amen,” you will be saved. And you will also get permission to participate in the wedding of the lamb as a gift, and, most importantly, you gain eternal life. God gives his Holy Spirit as a guarantee and proof, signifying that you now have a personal connection to God. Then you no longer need to doubt whether Jesus is real or not. You will know in your heart that you belong to Jesus, you are saved, and you are God’s beloved child, as well as the bride of the groom, who is Jesus Christ.

Putting on Festival Clothes

We only need to believe in order to get the proper festival clothing. But what does faith or believing mean? One of the most radical verses in the Bible is James 2:26, which says: ”Faith apart from works is dead”. This means that faith is manifested and visible in what we do. Whether our works are great or small is not the most important thing to consider. Instead, we must be faithful and obedient to Christ in everything we do. When our works are built on the foundation laid by Jesus Christ, they are of the lasting kind—nothing else can stand before God. Thus, it is wise to ponder daily what my clothes look like, so to speak. Have I built my life on the right, lasting foundation, which is Jesus? Will I be ready when the groom comes to take me to the wedding?

If you are heading to a wedding, you usually need to RSVP beforehand. After that, you might begin to think about what to wear for that occasion. You likely want to honor the festive occasion and the couple getting married with clothing by putting on the best clothes you own. In the heavenly wedding, you are like a bride, and the groom, Jesus, is coming to bring you to the celebration. It matters to the groom what you are wearing because it tells a lot about your attitude toward the groom. Here we are not talking about regular clothes. The Bible compares our works to the bride’s wedding gown that we will put on: ”It was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure—for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints” (Rev. 19:8). What this means in practice is abandoning our old sinful ways and turning to Jesus. When we do that, we allow God to be at work in our lives and purify us. He begins to transform us from the inside, and then God’s love begins to affect our works, too.

A rather concrete example of this is recorded in Matthew 22, which tells about a king’s wedding and a guest who was not wearing proper clothes for the occasion: ”But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment. And he said to him, ’Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ For many are called, but few are chosen.”

When reading this parable, one should note the old Jewish custom of giving proper garments to the invited guests by the host. That is why it was incomprehensible that the guest would not wear proper festival clothes, and not wearing the given clothes was actually rude toward the host. Refusing to wear the clothes was a sign of arrogance or that the guest didn’t want to participate in the wedding. In the same way, Jesus gives us God’s perfect acceptance as a gift, through the forgiveness of sins, and this should lead us to abandon our old life and choose God’s way every day. The one who wants to participate in the wedding should not only accept the invitation but be willing and ready to get up and go to the wedding!

Some time ago, my wife and I had not gone out on a date in a very long time. Therefore I had made a reservation at a restaurant, arranged a babysitter, and agreed with my wife on the exact time when to go well beforehand. I had not been able to spend time with the most important person in my life in such a long time, so it was a big day for me. I was excited! When I came home from work, I took a shower, chose a clean, white dress shirt, ironed it, and then put it on. When we were about to leave, my wife said that she didn’t feel like dressing up. So, she left the house with her hair uncombed and in casual clothes that she uses every day. I asked myself if I should feel offended. Doesn’t she appreciate this precious moment we can finally share and all the effort I had put into arranging the evening? Then why is she not showing it in her attitude and getting ready for the date? When we arrived at the restaurant, my wife was sitting opposite me and her face revealed that she didn’t care about being there. We didn’t have much to talk about, and all joy was gone. I will always remember how unpleasant the situation was, and we talked about it afterwards and she agreed.

Later it dawned on me that this experience is comparable to the upcoming wedding of the lamb. My wife did accept the invitation to go on a date to the restaurant, but in reality, she was not really ready to go. Her attitude was evident in her deeds: she left her fine clothes in the closet and skipped all preparations. That spoke volumes about the attitude she had at the time.

The Heavenly Father loves each one of us and wants us to participate in the marriage supper. According to the Bible, ”many are called, but few are chosen.” This is because there are so many who have not put on the festival clothes, just like my wife didn’t put on a bit more fancy clothes when we had our date.

Our heart attitude toward the groom is visible in our actions. Too many people might have accepted the invitation, yet they are not interested in following the way Jesus shows us. They have left their fine clothes in the closet. So, I’m not too surprised if the groom is not excited to celebrate with the bride who has not prepared herself and doesn’t really want to enter the party. That kind of attitude doesn’t make a great celebration but instead brings suffering and conflicts, ruining the whole party.
